Overview, Needs you and Activity

Each workspace has an Overview that shows what its tasks got done, where they ran and what waits on you. Open it from the workspace's … menu in the sidebar, or from the workspace's name in the breadcrumb at the top of the page. The sidebar lists every workspace you belong to, with its projects and their live sessions, and marks each session where the agent is waiting on your answer. Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) to find a session by title. For a record of what changed and who changed it, open Settings > your workspace > Activity.

The sidebar

From the top, the sidebar holds:

  • Sensei. It shows Sensei's face and one count: how many of your Sensei threads have something waiting on you or something new. See Sensei.
  • Search, with ⌘K (Ctrl+K). It opens the command palette. See Search tasks.
  • Workspaces, with Filter tasks, Sort tasks and a + that creates a workspace.
  • Every workspace you belong to, the ones you created or joined.
  • A card for each invitation waiting for you, such as "Acme invited you". Press Join to join that workspace.
  • Settings and Upgrade.

There is no New session row in the sidebar. Press ⌘J (Ctrl+J) on any page to open the New Session dialog. The open project's session list also ends with a New session row.

A workspace row shows the workspace's tile and name. Click the row to fold or unfold the workspace. A caret after the name shows on hover and stays while the workspace is folded. Sensei remembers which workspaces you folded. The workspace of the project you have open does not fold.

Hover a workspace row for two buttons. Its + imports a repository into that workspace. See Import a repository. Its … opens the workspace's menu:

ItemWhat it does
OverviewOpens the workspace's Overview.
Import a repositoryOpens the Import Project dialog for the workspace.
Invite membersOpens Settings > your workspace > Members.
New cronOpens the workspace's Crons page on a new cron.
Acme settingsOpens the workspace's Settings. The item names the workspace.

Under a workspace are its projects. Click a project's name to open the project and list its sessions. Hover a project and its folder icon turns into a caret. Click the caret to show or hide the project's sessions without leaving the page. Sensei remembers this for each project. A project's … menu holds its actions. A workspace with no projects shows an Import repository row where its first project will sit. It opens the Import Project dialog for that workspace.

A workspace with at least one cron also shows a Crons row under its projects. It shows how many crons the workspace has, and a red dot when the last run of one of them failed. Click it to open the workspace's Crons.

A project row can carry one deploy mark:

MarkMeaning
SetupMuted text on the right. The project has never deployed. The row opens its settings.
SpinnerA deploy is running. During the first deploy it shows the step, such as 2/4.
Yellow dotThe deploy agent is waiting for your input.
Red dotThe last deploy failed.

Each session shows at most one status mark, in this order:

MarkMeaning
Merge or archive iconThe session is Completed or Archived.
Green dotThe branch was merged.
SpinnerThe agent is working.
Pulsing amber dotThe agent is waiting on your answer. Shown only to the session's Assignee, or to every member while the session is Sensei's.
Red dotThe last turn failed.
Solid dotUnread. The agent finished, or the session was reassigned to you, since you last looked. Shown only to the Assignee, or to every member while the session is Sensei's.

A PR badge marks a session whose pull request has not merged, including an Archived session whose pull request was closed. Its color says whether the pull request needs attention, is waiting on checks, is ready to finish, or is under review. Hover over it for the checks and conflicts. A sandbox icon appears while the session's sandbox runs. Press it to stop the sandbox.

A project lists its Active and Under Review sessions by default, most recent activity first.

Filter tasks beside Workspaces filters every expanded project's tasks by Status, Assignee and Priority. Status offers Active, Under Review, Completed and Archived; clear every status to list no tasks. Assignee offers members across the workspaces you can access, with You first, plus Sensei, Assigned and Unassigned. Assigned and Unassigned clear one another while keeping member selections. Clear every Assignee or priority to include them all. Choices within a section combine; sections narrow one another. A selected member who is no longer listed stays as Unknown member so you can remove them.

Sort tasks offers Activity, Created and Priority; select the same field again to reverse its direction. Sensei remembers these filters and sort across projects, workspaces and reloads, independently of the Tasks page and Sensei filters. Filtering out the task you have open keeps its conversation open. Task keyboard shortcuts follow the filtered, sorted rows. Right-click a task for Open chat, Share, Rename, Priority, Assignee, View on GitHub, Archive and Delete. See Chat sessions and tasks.

Overview

A workspace's Overview lives at /w/<workspace>/overview, and its title reads the workspace's name, then Overview. It covers that workspace's tasks only. Personal tasks and Apps are not in it. There is no Overview across workspaces. An old link to /home opens the Overview of the workspace you opened most recently. Nothing on it changes a task; each row opens the task, thread or repository it names.

The Overview shows your own work at first. Use the filters at the top to widen or narrow it:

FilterOptionsStarts on
AssigneeOne or more members, plus Sensei, Assigned and Unassigned. Clear every choice for All Assignees. You
RepositoryAll repositories, or one of the workspace's repositories. One repository leaves out tasks with no repository. All repositories
Date rangeThis month, 7d, 30d, 90d, or two dates that span up to 366 days, counting both.Last 30 days

Sensei remembers your filters for each workspace.

A workspace with tasks but no repository still shows its tasks, without the Repository filter. When a workspace has neither, its Overview reads "Nothing here yet", with Add a project to import a repository. See Import a repository.

Figures and chart

FigureWhat it counts
tasks doneTasks done in the date range, by the day each was done, with the change on the range before it.
in progress nowTasks Active or Under Review right now.
need you nowYour own Sensei threads of this workspace with an open card, right now. The filters do not change it.
PRs mergedPull requests merged in the date range, with how many were opened.
credits spentThe retail value of the workspace's cloud usage in the date range. An enterprise plan sees cloud hours instead.

A dash means the figure could not be read. The chart below shows tasks done per day, stacked by whether each ran: Sandbox, or No execution for a task that never ran. Hover over a day to see its numbers, or select it to keep them open. Days are in UTC.

Panels

PanelWhat it shows
Waiting on youYour Sensei threads of this workspace with an open card, whatever the filters say. Select one to open it in Sensei, where you answer the card.
Tasks created in the periodTasks created in the date range, by how each was filed, largest first: Members in the app, Sensei threads, Sensei messages and events, GitHub pull requests, Task agents, CLI and API, Crons, Batch Merging, or Connected assistants. Tasks filed before Sensei recorded this show as Filed before a date; Other or unknown is the rest. Hover a row for what it counts.
RepositoriesEach repository's tasks in progress, tasks done, pull requests merged, and spend or hours. Select a name to open it.
Recently doneTasks done in the date range, newest first. Select one to open the task. Press Show more for older ones.

On a phone

The Overview needs a computer. In the iOS app, and in a window narrower than 768 pixels, it shows "Open this on a computer" with a Copy link button. See Desktop app and mobile.

Needs you

A session needs you when it is Active or Under Review and waits on you. That covers your own sessions, sessions booked to Sensei, and the pull requests a teammate asked you to review. Each session counts once, under its most severe reason:

OrderWhy the session is waiting
1Its pull request's checks failed.
2The agent's last turn failed.
3The agent asked a question and is waiting for an answer.
4/kosuke:ship stopped on a failure, or on a ready it could not prove.
5Its pull request is approved, its checks passed, and it has no go-ahead to merge yet.
6Its pull request is ready and not approved, and nobody was asked to review it. Only its author sees this.
7A teammate's pull request asks you for a review. Only you see this, not its author.
8Its branch is behind the Target Branch.
9It has an open pull request and no activity for more than 3 days.

With Sensei, each reason reaches the thread that holds the session as an event, and Sensei decides whether to draw a card for it, with the button that decides it. A session card in the lists shows no Needs you cue. The Threads tab of the Sensei page lists the threads that wait on you first, across every workspace, and the count beside Sensei in the sidebar includes them. There is no separate Needs you screen, and a workspace row shows no count. Threads also hold cards for what the list above does not cover, such as a review that asked for changes, a failed deploy or a message from a cron. See Decide what needs you. In the sidebar, a pulsing amber dot marks a session where the agent waits on your answer, and a red dot one whose last turn failed. Messages, Up next and steering explains answering the agent, and Sync with the Target Branch explains a branch that is behind.

The same list is available from the CLI with kosuke sessions list --needs-you --viewer me.

Search tasks

Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K), or Search in the sidebar.

  1. Type part of a task's title. With nothing typed, the palette lists the 10 most recently active tasks.
  2. Pick a result. It opens the task, or the details of a Backlog task.

Results are grouped by project. The search covers every workspace you belong to and leaves out Archived tasks. For every shortcut, see Keyboard shortcuts.

Workspace Activity

Activity is the workspace's log of what changed and who changed it, kept for 30 days. Every member can read all of it.

  1. Open Settings > your workspace > Activity.
  2. Pick a project to narrow the list, or leave All projects.
  3. Pick All, Changes or Member actions.
TabWhat it lists
ChangesStates Sensei observed. Checks fail or pass, a pull request merges, a branch falls behind, a pull request goes stale, the agent waits for an answer, or a Cron run succeeds or fails.
Member actionsWhat a named member did. They started, sent to, archived, deleted, assigned or moved a task, or changed its priority. They created, paused, resumed, edited or deleted a cron. They invited or removed a member, or changed a role.

Sending to a task is recorded once per member, task and day. Each event shows its time: how long ago for today, then Yesterday or the date. Press the Open task icon on a row to go to its task.

A dot marks each event that is new since your last visit. Your own actions are never new to you. Opening the page marks everything in the workspace as seen, and the dots stay until you close it.

To read Activity from a script, use kosuke activity list. kosuke agent summary get prints what needs you and your new Activity in one digest. See Sensei CLI.
